The fourth round of the UIM Formula 2 Inshore World Championship, which took place in San Nazzaro (Italy), was a weekend to forget for Monegasque driver Giacomo Sacchi-Abbatte. The problems began in qualifying on Saturday, when mechanical problems caused by poor quality fuel seriously compromised his chances of a good result.
On Sunday morning, however, Giacomo showed encouraging signs in the Warm Up, setting the third fastest time. This promising result was the fruit of the hard work of his team, who managed to make the boat competitive despite the difficulties encountered the day before.
With this good omen, the afternoon race proved to be demanding. Starting from 15th on the grid, Giacomo made an impressive comeback, finishing in 7th position before receiving a penalty lap for dangerous driving. With this caution added to his final time, he finished 12th in Grand Prix d’Italie II.
In conclusion, the race failed to earn the Monegasque driver any points, a blow which is putting the brakes on his ambitions in the race for the world title. The championship continues on September 18 in Portugal, where he will need to bounce back if he is to stay in contention.
